Setelah misi kerajaan Malaysia berjaya menghantar angkasawannya, Dr. Firdaus Ghani sebagai angkasawan pertama Asia Tenggara menjejaki kaki di planet Marikh; negara menyaksikan satu lagi sejarah telah terlakar. Akan tetapi, beliau telah menjadi lagenda kerana terbunuh akibat terkena serpihan asteroid yang telah melanda planet itu secara tiba-tiba.

Ketika meteor-meteor itu semakin menghampiri bumi, semua penduduk dunia menjadi panik dan tidak tenteram lagi. Masing-masing menghadapi konflik yang tersendiri. Dr. Bazli yang telah bertunang dengan Azrina berada dipersimpangan dilema apabila mendapat tahu tunangnya adalah bekas pelacur walaupun permohonan mereka berdua untuk ke Marikh telahpun diluluskan. Faizal pula terpaksa mengorbankan kasih sayang terhadap kedua ibu-bapanya bagi menyelamatkan adik-beradiknya apabila kerajaan mengumumkan golongan tua tidak dibenarkan pergi ke Marikh atas faktor usia. Pasangan kembar, Shahril dan Shahrun pula berdepan dengan realiti apabila adiknya, Shahrun juga tidak dibenarkan kerajaan menyertai misi pemindahan manusia ke Marikh di atas sebab dia adalah bekas seorang banduan.

The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, which the renaissance artist worked on for four years in the early 16th century, is actually a “bridge” between the Roman Catholic Church and the Jewish faith, according to The Sistine Secrets: Unlocking the Codes in Michelangelo’s Defiant Masterpiece.

The book, which is already on the New York Times bestseller list, is the work of Rabbi Benjamin Blech, an associate professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University in New York, and Roy Doliner, a tour guide at the Vatican.

Scanning through the arrangement of figures on the vast 14,000 square foot ceiling, the authors have found shapes that correspond to Hebrew letters.

For example, the book states, the figures of David and Goliath form the shape of the letter gimel, which symbolises g’vurah, or strength, in the mystical Kabbalah tradition.

Kabbalah is a set of ancient esoteric teachings which are meant to decode the inner meaning of the Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible, and to explain the reasons for Jewish religious observances.

On the opposite wall, the scene showing Judith and her handmaiden carrying the head of the Assyrian general Holofernes is in the shape of the Hebrew letter chet, which represents chesed, or the characteristics of “loving kindness”.

“There are so many layers of meaning on meaning, and most of it is from the Jewish tradition,” said Mr Doliner on an American television programme.

Rabbi Blech added that all the figures in the nine scenes on the ceiling are Jews.

“He emphasises only Old Testament figures in the entire ceiling, and what he was trying to say was: Why have we ignored our true roots?” he said.

The book adds that the tree of life in the fresco is not, as usually thought, an apple tree, but instead a fig tree according to ancient Jewish tradition.

The authors believe the entire Sistine Chapel, which they say is built to the same proportions as the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, is a “lost mystical message of universal love” which was intended to be decoded.

The authors believe Michelangelo picked up his knowledge of Judaism while at the court of Lorenzo de Medici in Florence.

In addition, they say there are several attacks on Pope Julius II, who commissioned the work, embedded in the painting.

Disgusted with papal corruption, they think Michelangelo painted the prophet Zechariah in the pope’s likeness.

Behind him, one angel is “making an extremely obscene hand gesture at the back of his head.”

Critics of the new book point out that there is no record in Michelangelo’s extensive and well-preserved writings of any secret code in the ceiling.

Dr Arnold Nesselrath, a curator at the Vatican museums said there was no way that Michelangelo could have painted any of the ceiling without the pope’s express consent.

Marco Bussagli, an art history professor at Rome’s La Sapienza university, said the revelation of “anti Catholic and anti-Christian” messages on the roof “suggests that the Dan Brown syndrome has struck again.”

Mr Brown is the author of the controversial book, The Da Vinci Code, in which he writes that Jesus was secretly married to Mary Magdalene.

The two authors are not the first to have “seen” a secret Michelangelo code.

In 1950, a Venezuelan diplomat named Joaquin Diaz Gonzalez wrote a pamphlet arguing that an outline of the face of Dante, the poet, was hidden in the arrangement of the figures in the Last Judgement. He also “saw” a giant depiction of Jesus on the cross.

In 1990, Frank Meshberger argued in the Journal of the American Medical Association that the central panel, showing God and Adam reaching out to touch each other was in the shape of a brain and spinal cord.

In 2000, Dr Garabed Eknoyan saw the shape of a kidney in the painting, while in 2005 two Brazilian doctors found hidden body parts throughout, including a bronchial tube hidden in the tree trunk in the panel showing Eve’s Creation.

For centuries, people have traveled to Rome to visit the Sistine Chapel to stare up at Michelangelo’s stunning ceiling.

To most, the frescoes represent familiar stories from the Old Testament — “the Creation of Adam,” “the Temptation of Eve” — and define the way many imagine these characters, even if they’ve never set foot in the chapel. But there are those who look at the 500-year-old frescoes and see something different.

“[The ceiling] has so many layers of meaning upon meaning, and most of it, if not all of it, is from the Jewish tradition,” said Roy Doliner, a Vatican tour guide.

He and Rabbi Benjamin Blech, associate professor of the Talmud, Yeshiva University, have written a book, “The Sistine Secrets: Michelangelo’s Forbidden Messages in the Heart of the Vatican.”

They say that Michelangelo embedded powerful and even dangerous messages in the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, that he encoded these messages using his knowledge of mystic Jewish texts and that he intended some images as insults to the pope.

Kabbalah the Key?

The authors think that Michelangelo would have been exposed to Jewish teachings in Florence, while living in Lorenzo de Medici’s household.

Medici was the powerful leader of Florence, and used his influence to bring many great thinkers and artists to his city. Some of them studied the Zohar, a book at the center of a form of Jewish mysticism called Kabbalah.

According to Doliner and Blech, Kabbalah is the key to cracking the code of many of Michelangelo’s hidden messages. But their first clue didn’t come from an art historian. Rather, it came from a tourist from Indiana who looked up at the famous panel of “The Creation of Adam,” and was reminded of something else.

“In the late 1970s, a surgeon went into the Sistine Chapel, took a look at this [fresco]. He said to himself, wait, this is Anatomy 101.… This is actually a cross-section of the brain, the right hand side of the brain,” Blech said.

“Now, what’s interesting is in Kabbalah we have different kinds of wisdom,” said Doliner. “The right side of the human brain in Kabbalah means wisdom — chokhma.” God is appearing from the right side of the brain in that fresco.

Experts agree that Michelangelo would have learned about many different philosophies that captivated 15th century Florence, including Kabbalah, but they don’t believe that Kabbalah motivated the iconography on the ceiling.

“One of the great desires of the Renaissance was to reconcile the great religions, the great knowledges of the world, and bring them together and realize that there’s sort of underlying wisdom behind all of them,” said Michelangelo scholar William Wallace, a professor at Washington University in St. Louis.

Wallace suggests that there are reasons for the brain image in Christian theology.

“After all, God is all-knowing,” he said. “So in a sense a brain is an appropriate way to suggest the greatness of God … although one of my students in class said it that looked like a stomach.”

Doliner and Blech are not the first to see Kabbalistic imagery on the ceiling. In 1986, Jane Schuyler, an art historian and professor at York College, CUNY, published an article about the beautiful woman under God’s arm in the “Creation of Adam” panel. Many assume this character is a preview of Eve, but Schuyler thinks this mystery woman could represent Shekhinah, God’s female beloved from Kabbalah.

Liz Lev, an art historian at Duquesne University in Rome, says the authors are focusing too closely on the details and missing the big picture.

“If we stop looking for secret hidden meaning … [the ‘Creation of Adam’ panel] is showing us probably the most inspiring image of what it means to be a human being. We see an activation of the potential of man.”

Kisah bermula apabila satu pembunuhan misteri telah berlaku di mana seorang ketua pengawas arkib, Arturo S. Eduardo telah mati dibunuh di dalam Arkib Rahsia Vatican. Persoalan timbul apabila si mati bukanlah beragama Kristian Katolik, tetapi sebenarnya adalah daripada pengikut The Cathar, iaitu satu kumpulan pergerakan medival yang anti-Katolik dengan fahaman mereka yang percaya bahawa penyaliban Jesus adalah satu penipuan besar yang sengaja direka oleh penganut-penganut Kristian Katolik.    

            Seorang wartawan terkenal, Jessica Keith di bawah syarikat akhbar The Daily Telegraph di London telah ditugaskan untuk membongkar misteri pembunuhan tersebut. Jessica juga telah bertemu dengan Sheikh Hamza Yunus Cairel, seorang penceramah hal ehwal Islam yang terkenal di Britain sewaktu menghadiri seminarnya. Perkenalan mereka yang singkat itu telah mengheret Sheikh Hamza ke Vatican bersama Jessica dalam penyiasatannya itu.

            Setelah satu demi satu penyiasatan dibuat, ia telah menemukan mereka dengan beberapa klu-klu rahsia ciptaan Michelangelo. Namun, klu-klu itu teramat berbahaya jika didedahkan kerana ia akan memberi ancaman besar kepada dunia Kristian. Sejak berdekad lamanya, paderi-paderi dahulu cuba merahsiakan kewujudan sebuah kitab Injil Barnaba iaitu sebuah kitab Injil asli dalam bahasa Ibrani yang telah dibawa oleh Nabi Isa. Dengan perancangan terperinci, kitab itu berjaya dipinggirkan oleh Majlis Tertinggi Gereja di Barat dengan propagandanya adalah untuk menutup rahsia status sebenar Nabi Isa yang hakikatnya tidak mati ditiang salib. 

Namun, ia adalah satu bebanan berat bagi Sheikh Hamza dan Jessica yang cuba untuk menyelamatkan rahsia tersebut daripada dihapuskan oleh pengikut Gereja Kecil Sistine di Vatican. Pihak gereja di Itali teramat mahukan kitab Injil tersebut kerana mereka tidak mahu dunia mengetahui, membaca dan mendengar perkara yang sebenar. Lukisan siling hasil karya Michelangelo di Gereja Kecil Sistine yang telah bertahun-tahun menjadi antara satu bahan sejarah yang mengagumkan, sebenarnya tersimpan kod-kod rahsia tertentu yang belum pernah ada sesiapa membongkarnya sebelum ini.

Maka bermulalah episod pencarian kitab Injil asli tersebut oleh Sheikh Hamza yang bergandingan bersama Jessica Keith. Petunjuk itu telah membawa mereka ke lokasi sebenar penyembunyian kitab Injil Barnaba tersebut. Pelbagai dugaan yang mereka tempuhi termasuk diburu oleh pembunuh upahan, pihak polis, dikejar pengikut Kristian Katolik serta pengikut-pengikut The Cathar yang turut merebutkan klu-klu tersebut yang mempercayai rahsia itu adalah kepunyaan mereka.

The Michelangelo Code (English Synopsis):

The story begins with a mysterious murder of a Chief Prefect of Archive; Arturo S. Eduardo was killed in the basilica office in Vatican Secret Archive. The question arise when the dead turns out to be the follower of The Cathar, instead of the Christian Catholic; one of medieval group of anti-Catholic with their believes that the crucifixion of Jesus was a gigantic fraud fabricated by the Christian Catholic.

A well-known reporter of The Daily Telegraph, Jessica Keith in London was assigned to uncover of that mystery murder. Jessica met the famous speaker of Islamic Affairs in Britain, Professor Sheikh Hamza Yunus Cairel while attending his seminar. Their brief encounter brought him to Vatican with Jessica in her investigation.

After many investigations, they found secret clues hidden by true Renaissance man, Michelangelo. However, these clues are threat to the Christian world. For decades, the Christian monks tried to keep the secret of the original gospel by Jesus, Gospel Barnabas. With the meticulous conspiracy, that gospel was successfully condemned by the Highest Council of the Churches in the Western world in order to cover up the truth of Jesus crucifixion.

But it was a heavy burden on Sheikh Hamza and Jessica who tried to save that secret from being obliterated by the Christian in the Sistine Chapel in Vatican. The church in Italy was eagerly needed that gospel because they don’t want the world to know the truth. The Sistine ceiling by Michelangelo located in Vatican, that for years had become one of magnificent historical art, actually are hidden by the secret codes that no one have discover it before.

Now, the new chapter begins in the searching for that precious book. The clues lead them to the secret location of the Gospel Barnabas. The search leads them through Vatican and soaring cathedrals, chasing by the assassin, hunted by polices, Christian Catholic and The Cathar that believe they were the chosen to be the guardian of the book.

Did the Professor Sheikh Hamza really able to crack the secret codes of the unsolved mystery? Did Jessica could reveal to the world about the truth that has been hidden for many centuries in her religion?
